diabetes in Cuba, a figure that could reach 624,000
by 2010, affirmed Dr. Oscar Díaz, director of the
National Institute of Endocrinology, a special
center devoted to treatment of this condition that
causes the death of three million people a year
worldwide.

Aboriginal site discovered
on Guanabo beach

CUBAN archeologists have discovered a remarkable
aboriginal site at Punta Macao, on Guanabo beach in
eastern Havana, which contains ceramics and pottery
objects, according to a report given at the 2nd
International Archeology Seminar that recently took
place in the island’s capital, attended by delegates
from 200 countries.

part of the policy implemented by Cuba to eliminate
the import and use of substances that deplete the
ozone layer, from 1989 to 2006, the country consumed
8,626 less tons of chlorofluorocarbons, chemical
substances used in refrigeration and air
conditioners, and industrial and pharmaceutical
aerosols, according to Doctor Nelson Espinosa,
director of the Technical Office on Ozone, who spoke

CHINA will finance the production, in that
country, of six million units of a Cuban bio-insecticide
to be used in Cuba to control outbreaks of dengue
fever spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito,
