Cuba received 30,000 Argentine tourists in 2006

THE influx of Argentine tourists to diverse Cuban destinations was in excess of 30,000 last year, thanks to the island’s attractive offers.

LAST year, Cuba welcomed 2,319, 334 foreign visitors, the highest annual figure to date, and which represents a growth of 13.2% in relation to 2004, affirmed Manuel Marrero Cruz, minister of tourism, during the opening of the 26th International Tourism Fair. Marrero highlighted the implementation of innovative strategies as the principal reason for those results, as the period in question was difficult for world tourism. During the last five years, he noted, the crude propaganda campaign against the sector on the island has reached its peak and the tightening of the U.S. blockade provoked considerable losses in the economic order.

Global Environment Facility confirms its ongoing support for Jardines del Rey

ONE of the Caribbean’s natural wonders, the Jardines del Rey archipelago on Cuba’s northern coast, is to continue enjoying financial and technical assistance from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for supporting preservation of the biological and natural treasures found in that region’s four ecosystems.  

Cuban and Ecuadorian tour operators unite to strengthen tourism

THE Havanatur international group of tour operators and travel agencies and TAME, the Ecuadorian airline, have created a strategic alliance to bring tourism to Cuba and offer multi-destination flights. According to Pedro Hernández, general director of Havanatur, TAME began weekly charter flights to Havana on February 11 with the aim of making it a regular route.

Spanish tourism to Cuba grew by33% in 2005

SPAIN remained the third issuing country of tourists to Cuba during 2005, a year in which a total of 194,102 Spaniards visited the island, 33% more than during 2004, reported Manuel Marrero, Cuban minister of tourism, during the 2006 International Tourism Fair (FITUR).

The Varadero Xanadu
