Baseball players on the way to Taipei

THE team that will represent Cuba
at the 16th Intercontinental Baseball Cup leaves
today for the city of Taichung, in Chinese Taipei,
with the goal of playing four games before debuting
on November 9 against Holland.
The team, along with manager Rey
Vicente Anglada, received the Cuban flag yesterday
at Sports City from Christian Jiménez, president of
the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), who presented
the national emblem to pitcher Pedro Luis Lazo,
escorted by Frederich Cepeda and team captain
Eduardo Paret. Michel Enriquez read out the promise
by all the players to compete with honor, dignity
and dedication, and Angel Iglesias, vice president
of INDER, gave the closing remarks, and said that
the Cuban people are confident of a successful
performance by their team. |
