BY SIGFREDO BARROS – Granma daily staff writer –

THE team that will represent Cuba at the 16th Intercontinental Baseball Cup leaves today for the city of Taichung, in Chinese Taipei, with the goal of playing four games before debuting on November 9 against Holland.

The team, along with manager Rey Vicente Anglada, received the Cuban flag yesterday at Sports City from Christian Jiménez, president of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), who presented the national emblem to pitcher Pedro Luis Lazo, escorted by Frederich Cepeda and team captain Eduardo Paret. Michel Enriquez read out the promise by all the players to compete with honor, dignity and dedication, and Angel Iglesias, vice president of INDER, gave the closing remarks, and said that the Cuban people are confident of a successful performance by their team.
