HOLGUIN.—This year, 2006, has been a year of hard
work , with undeniably good results in diverse
fields, and an indication that we can do things much
better, stated Carlos Lage, member of the Political
Bureau and secretary of the Executive Committee of
the Council of Ministers at the end of a tour of the
province.
On
the subject of energy, he asserted that with respect
to the use of diesel and gasoline, we are still a
long way off from achieving the savings that could
be made and called for greater control so that fuel
can be used for the economy with the maximum
efficiency possible.
In
the municipality of Urbano Noris, Lage viewed a
completed set of four silos for storing and
preserving grain. And he witnessed the start of
packaging tests for corn flour in 500-gram bags for
sale to the general population.
Together with Ulises Rosales del Toro, minister of
the sugar industry, and Miguel Díaz-Canel, first
secretary of the Party in Holguín, both of them
members of the Political Bureau, Lage reviewed the
organizational work underway for the sugar harvest
at the Urbano Noris Sugar Enterprise. He affirmed
that the country must set itself the goal of
increasing efficiency and productivity, and more so
at a time when sugar prices are high.
He
also visited the Ministry of Transport’s provincial
Merchandise Loading Base, for which investments have
been made in order to increase its operations and
the use of transport, which is also connected to
productive efficiency and organization.
Lage noted the efforts made in Holguín province on
other fronts, referring specifically to the
completion of 9,000 homes by the end of the year,
including 3,000 brand-new ones, many of them
designated for health professionals.
