launched in Havana
THE book Cien horas con Fidel Castro (One
Hundred Hours with Fidel Castro ) by writer and
journalist Ignacio Ramonet , which has made news in
the media after its launch in Spain, is to be
published in Havana this Tuesday.
Ramonet, who has converted his interview, which
he calls talks with the president of Cuba, into
600-plus pages of debate, is in the capital for the
launch at the International Conference Center.
The 26 chapters of the edition printed on the
island is a tour of the past, present and future of
the Revolution which, moreover, includes significant
events in the world over these years, according to
the AIN.
During the May 15 "Informative Roundtable, "where
Fidel and other revolutionary leaders exposed the
media manipulations of the U.S. Forbes
magazine, which has accused the Cuban leader of
possessing one of the largest personal fortunes in
the world, excerpts from the book were read out.
Critics and specialists agree that Ramonet’s text
portrays the life of Fidel, which is the synthesis
of the finest patriotic vocation of a people totally
and forever committed to their history.
The editor of Le Monde Diplomatique has
explained on more than one occasion that the idea of
the book emerged in 2002 and the hours of
conversation and questions and answers mounted in
the following years, alongside a meticulous revision
undertaken by the Cuban president without taking
away the essence of what was expressed.
Considered a specialist of the media and its
manipulation by the information transnationals,
Ramonet has written many articles of great impact
and is an eminent political activist who supports
the world social forums of movements against
neoliberal globalization and the hegemony of thought
imposed by the White House.
