Demonstrators in
Miami reject travel restrictions to Cuba
MIAMI, May 21.— Last Saturday, more than 160
people - principally Cuban émigrés - assembled in
the center of this city to protest against
restrictions preventing them from traveling to Cuba
to visit relatives and other loved ones.
The protesters waved Cuban and US flags and
carried placards bearing the slogans "The family is
sacred", "Politics, no! Family, yes!", "Bush, have
respect. Don’t mess with my family" and "We’re going
to travel". The demonstration, convened by the
Association of Christian Women in Defense of the
Family, took place outside the federal building
which houses the Treasury Department’s offices and
was deemed a "success" by organizers.
This is the first in a series of public events
protesting all the travel restrictions promoted by
the Bush administration over the last three years.
