Cuban and
Ecuadorian tour operators unite to strengthen
tourism

• THE Havanatur international group of tour
operators and travel agencies and TAME, the
Ecuadorian airline, have created a strategic
alliance to bring tourism to Cuba and offer multi-destination
flights. According to Pedro Hernández, general
director of Havanatur, TAME began weekly charter
flights to Havana on February 11 with the aim of
making it a regular route.
Hernández clarified that this is not an
association as such, but a very specific business
within the tourism sector that is opening up
tremendous possibilities for his agency and the
Ecuadorian airline. Hernández stated that in
addition to transporting tourists to the island from
Ecuador with TAME, discussions are underway from
transporting them from Europe and other nations as a
way to promote Ecuador - Cuba multi-destination
trips.
"With our offices and partners in Europe and
Latin America, we can sell flights to the Galapagos
Islands, Quito, Guayaquil and offer package tours to
Havana, Quito or Guayaquil", he explained.
Havanatur is responsible for representing TAME
within Cuba, where it will attend to the airline’s
weekly flight and sell tickets through its network
of offices.
Hernández stated that several Ecuadorian agencies
already include package tours to Cuba and what is
important is that now the Cuba destination can be
sold via Havanatur with TAME. He recalled that his
agency has offices in 12 nations, and companies in
another 80 countries are working with Havanatur.
