Cuban foreign minister defends the Non-Aligned
Movement as a forum for political agreement
ALGIERS, March 22.—Felipe Pérez
Roque, the Cuban minister of foreign affairs, today
defended the existence of the Non-Aligned Movement
in a unipolar world in an encounter with the press
at the end of his visit to Algeria, EFE reports.
The Cuban representative traveled
to Algiers with the objective of presenting
President Abdelaziz Bouteflika with an invitation
from his counterpart Fidel Castro to participate in
the upcoming summit of the Movement, scheduled for
September in Havana.
Pérez Roque noted that Bouteflika
had affirmed his presence at that forum of 144
countries.
He stated that his meetings with
Algerian leaders had reaffirmed to him that
relations between the two countries are excellent
“because there is an intense bilateral political
dialogue and multiple points of agreement on
international affairs.”
“We appreciate Algeria’s support
in international forums and, in particular, its firm
stance against the economic blockade of Cuba, which
has caused losses of at least $82 billion,” he
added.
