Bush met by huge
protests in India
NEW DEHLI, March 1.—Hundreds of thousands of
people demonstrated to Bush today that he is the
most repudiated president in the world, from the
very start of his visit to India, a country with
which he is trying to achieve nuclear and commercial
cooperation agreements.
Bush arrived at Palam airport in the capital –
from Afghanistan, where he spent four hours – in the
midst of a deployment of more than 100,000 police –
some of them armed – "to avoid any breach of the
peace," according to PL.
The security measures include electronic
equipment, four helicopters and armored limousines,
transported a few weeks ago from Washington.
A multi-system of U.S. and Indian security is to
protect Bush during his three-day visit, in which he
is to have talks with the highest national
authorities.
Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in New
Delhi and other cities in the country against the
visit by the U.S. leader and his policy of "divide
and rule," as placards read.
The giant march here was headed by artistic,
literary, political, university and religious
figures.
