Evo Morales opposes U.S. punishment of Bolivian senator

LA PAZ, February 23 – Bolivian President Evo Morales today defended governing party Senator Leonilda Zurita before the international community after she was prevented from entering the United States under false accusations of suspected terrorism.

“We are not terrorists or drug traffickers,” Morales said in a speech of thanks for the greetings of the accredited diplomatic corps, during which he addressed the conflict posed by the measure taken against Senator Zurita of the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS), PL reported.

Contrary to his usual policy of media exposure, David Greenlee did not attend the event, lending credence to rumors of a crisis in bilateral relations.

Morales expressed his concern at what he called “veto, marginalization, exclusion or punishment” used against his former comrade-in-struggle, “our sister” Leonilda Zurita, for having been denied entry into the northern country.
