Solemn ceremony at Anti-Imperialist Tribunal to mark
February 24
IT was 111 years ago, on
February 24, 1895, that Cuba once again rose up in
arms, with the guidance and the ideas of Martí, in
the Necessary War that would free us from the
decadent and oppressive metropolis and prevent
intervention from the nascent and voracious Northern
empire.
In order to remember the day that
saw us definitively unleash the battle against an
enemy who continues to threaten and attack us; to
pay tribute to and honor all who have fought and
fallen during these 138 years of war for our
independence; to proclaim our ideas and defend our
convictions; there will be a solemn ceremony to
commemorate the 111th Anniversary of the Start of
the Necessary War at 5:00 p.m. today at the Flag
Memorial that we have raised in the José Martí
Anti-Imperialist Tribunal.
Facing the offices of the
Interests Section for the fouled-up and brutal
empire that despises us, this century’s Mambí
fighters will hold aloft the ideas of our National
Hero as a reaffirmation of our irrevocable decision
of “independence or death!”
Participants in this patriotic
event will include leaders of the Party, state and
government; representatives of the Young Communist
League, student and mass organizations; family
members of the victims of the Barbados sabotage and
other acts of terrorism against our people; family
members of our Five Heroes; and construction workers
involved in the expansion work on the Tribunal.
Today, when we are also
commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding
of the Revolutionary Directorate and the 30th of the
proclamation of our Socialist Constitution, a group
of the Directorate’s combatants will be present as
well, together with deputies from the National
Assembly of People’s Power.
The
national radio and television networks, Cubavisión
International and Radio Habana Cuba will broadcast
the important event live.
