President Bush admits U.S. failure in
Iraq
WASHINGTON, December 7 (PL).—President George W.
Bush today admitted that things are going badly for
the United States in Iraq due to the deterioration
of the situation in that Arab country, where close
to 3,000 U.S. troops have died.
In
a press conference at the White House in the
presence of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Bush
stated that as a consequence of that complex
panorama in the Persian Gulf nation that he will
begin to withdraw his troops from Iraqi soil
starting 2008.
Those statements from the U.S. leader came the day
after a bi-party committee on Iraq recommended the
staggered return home of the U.S. forces deployed in
Iraq since 2003.
“President George W. Bush’s strategy is not
working,” was one of the most categorical
definitions of the panel of experts, among the 179
recommendations made in favor of seeking a way out
of the U.S. military impasse in that nation.
The report also noted that the skill of the United
States for influencing vents within Iraq is
diminishing, a conclusion that, according to the
presidential spokesman Tony Snow, will be taken
seriously by the government.
