Cuban Parliament goes into
session today
By María Julia Mayoral – Granma
daily staff writer –
VERY valuable material, which
describes the resistance of the Cuban people, is how
Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, president of the
National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament),
described the documentary Bloqueo: La Guerra
contra Cuba (Blockade: the War against Cuba), by
Argentine directors Daniel D’Saloms and Carolina
Silvestre, shown to deputies yesterday, December 19
as part of the preparations for the new ordinary
session of Parliament.
Alarcón said that the imperialist
power is weaker today, while the Cuban Revolution
continues to represent an extraordinary example of
solidarity to the world.
He said that despite the growing
hostility from the United States government, Cuban
society is continuing to develop a countless number
of social programs.
The National Assembly’s 10
permanent working commissions will go into session
from today in different venues throughout Havana,
with the aim of assessing work done over this past
year; agreeing on goals for 2007, and receiving
further information on the 2007 state plan and
budget.
These discussions should round
off the elements that deputies already have in hand
with a view to the ordinary session period which
begins December 22, and will examine – as is
customary in December – the country’s main economic
and social accomplishments during the year that is
ending, as well as approve projections for the
coming year.
The discussion will be attended
by leaders and officials of Central State
Administration agencies, who will provide
information about their respective areas and will
have to respond to deputies’ questions and concerns.
The commissions also plan to
discuss specific issues related to the areas they
oversee.
