Attacks leave 15 dead and dozens
of Iraqis injured
BAGHDAD, December 20 (PL) —. After several days of
relative calm, the capital awoke today under the
effects of two car-bomb attacks that left at least
15 dead and dozens of injured.
One of the actions occurred on one of the main
capital boulevards, when a suicide bomber blew
himself up inside a car loaded with explosives.
The explosion took place in the Al Jadidirya
neighborhood, and was aimed at a Ministry of the
Interior post adjoining the University of Baghdad.
According to police reports, 11 deaths had been
reported, four of them of police officers and the
rest civilians, while 30 were injured, including
some university students.
Another attack occurred north of the capital, when a
car blew up near a government building containing
offices of the Department of Citizenship and
Passports, leaving four dead and seven injured,
according to witnesses.
While it has not yet been publicly announced,
authorized media agencies here revealed that new
U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has arrived
in Iraq to inspect the war’s progress on the ground.
Diverse sources agreed that his mission would be to
find new elements for facilitating a redesigned
strategy for the Arab nation.
