Dominican parliament wishes Fidel
a speedy recovery

SANTO DOMINGO.— The Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Congress has passed a resolution congratulating Cuban President Fidel Castro for his 80th birthday and wishing him a rapid return to good health.

The motion was presented by Deputy Cristian Paredes, leader of the opposition – the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) – and seconded by Manuel Jiménez, president of the Commission for Friendship with Cuba and also a representative of the ruling Dominican Liberation Party.

Passed by 101 of the 178 members of the Chamber, the motion was also supported by Deputy Ramón Rogelio Genao, leader of the Christian Social Reformist Party (PRSC), together with members of other parties with parliamentary representation.

According to them, the resolution acknowledges that “Dr. Fidel Castro has dedicated the best years of his life to improving the lives of the Cuban people.”

It also highlights his stature as a world leader and his constant solidarity with the Dominican people.

Prior to that, the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress resolved to “congratulate Dr. Fidel Castro for his 80th birthday” on August 13, which was celebrated last December 2. (PL)
