Doubts in USA as to Bush’s capacity
WASHINGTON, August
22.—Conservative U.S. editorial writers and
commentators are beginning to doubt the capacity of
President George W. Bush to lead the United States
and are questioning his foreign policy, particularly
in Iraq, AFP reports.
“Is
Bush an imbecile?” That was the provocative question
posed a few days ago by Joe Scarborough, a former
Republican representative and presenter of the TV
program “Scarborough Country” on the MSNBC channel,
a comment heard more often on the U.S. left.
“For six years, George W. Bush
has been ridiculed by the left circles. But now,
instead of laughing at Democratic arrogance,
Republicans are joining with the left in asking
about the president’s intellectual achievements,”
said Scarborough on his program, on reproaching the
leader for his “lack of intellectual curiosity.”
Many Republican candidates,
campaigning for the November elections, are
distancing themselves from the Bush administration
on Iraq, while various conservative editorial
writers and TV commentators, the so-called opinion
leaders, have begun to express their doubts.
