San Francisco to
prevent undocumented immigrants from being
criminalized
LOS ANGELES, California, April 12—San Francisco
has passed a resolution prohibiting the enforcement
of any federal law that criminalizes undocumented
immigrants or those who help them, an unprecedented
action nationwide, according to a Notimex article.
In the first resolution of its type passed in the
United States, the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors approved instructing local authorities
not to comply with criminalizing provisions of any
immigration law.
The measure was backed by Mayor Gavin Newson, who
signed the resolution reaffirming San Francisco as a
city of sanctuary for immigrants, joining other
cities that have adopted that term, such as Los
Angeles, Maywood and Pomona.
