Call to form broad front to channel protests in Bolivia

LA PAZ.— The Press Workers’ Federation in the Bolivian capital has called for the formation of a broad front of workers and campesinos to direct the current protests calling for a constituent assembly and the nationalization of the hydrocarbons industry.

According to PL, a communiqué from the journalists’ union states the need to provide a leadership for the disorganized mobilizations being staged by workers, the impoverished middle class, the unemployed and those excluded from the system.

In this way, the statement indicates that it must organize and direct the people towards the conquest of the nationalization of the hydrocarbons industry as the only way of guaranteeing the harmonious development of Bolivia.

Meanwhile, it rejects the attitude of the traditional parties, Parliament and government who are conducting themselves in a calculating manner, ignoring the political advance of the workers and campesinos, and defending the interests of the oil transnationals.

The Press Workers’ Federation of La Paz also condemns the oligarchy who, under the pretext of the struggle for regional autonomies, is attempting to preserve its privileges.
