Foreign minister of Burundi in Havana

THERENCE Sinunguruza, Burundi minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, arrived in Havana at the close of this edition in response to an official invitation from his Cuban counterpart Felipe Pérez Roque.

Cuba and Burundi established diplomatic relations on February 2, 1974 and scholarship students from Burundi are currently studying in Cuba, while a brigade of health volunteers is providing medical services in that African country, Granma reports.

During his stay, Sinunguruza will complete a full program of events including official meetings, interviews with national leaders and visits to places of historical and cultural interest.

Burundi is an inland country located in Central Africa in the Great Lakes region, it bordering on Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Lake Tanganyika to the west.

This African nation, which gained its independence on July 1, 1962 covers a territory of 27,834 square kilometers and has a population of some 6.2 million inhabitants. (PL)
