Eurodeputies call
for criminal’s extradition

EURODEPUTIES from the Communist Party of Greece
have presented a motion to the European Parliament
proposing that terrorist Luis Posada Carriles be
extradited to Venezuela, scheduled to be discussed
by that body on June 8, as Aleka Papriga, general
secretary of that organization, informed Granma
International.
The situation of the five Cubans unjustly
imprisoned in the U.S. is also to be addressed,
Papriga added, and a concrete response is expected
for that date.
Regarding his presence in Havana to participate
in the international anti-terrorism conference,
Paparig affirmed categorically: "Greece is not a
victim of terrorism. Greece is considered to be a
strategic ally of the United States, and in that
context, it is also participating in acts of
terrorism against the peoples." But, as he
immediately clarified, "The Greek people, of course,
are victims of terrorism."
The maximum leader of the Greek communists for
the last 14 years, he recalls that although the
party is currently legal, it was underground for
many years. "My country was recently under a
military dictatorship, and those centrally
responsible have been tried, but in reality, the
truly responsible parties are the United States and
NATO. Greece is one of the European countries that
most opposes US imperialism, NATO and European Union
policies."
Papariga, who has visited Cuba a number of times
at the invitation of the Central Committee of the
Communist Party, affirmed that the international
anti-terrorism conference represents an important
advance in coordinating the struggle to extradite
Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela, and at the same
time, is an important demonstration of solidarity
with the Cuban people.
