Another conspiracy in favor of anti-Cuban
terrorists in Miami
WASHINGTON, December 6.—Another
conspiracy could be being plotted in the U.S. city
of Miami, where the hearing of the case of
Santiago Alvarez, benefactor of terrorist Luis
Posada Carriles is scheduled for today, Prensa
Latina reports.
Despite the evidence presented
by the prosecution, the defense is maneuvering to
get the accused, owner of the motorboat that
illegally brought Posada Carriles to U.S.
territory in March this year, released on bond.
Moreover, anti-Cuban
organizations and extremist groups based in the
United States have announced a campaign on behalf
of the accused presumed terrorists Alvarez and
Osvaldo Mitat, charged with illegal possession of
weapons and false documents.
According to analysts, a
conspiratorial atmosphere has been activated in
Miami to get the charges dropped against the
accomplices of Carriles, whom the U.S. authorities
have refused to extradite to Venezuela.
The hearing of Alvarez, aged
64, and Mitat, 63, was scheduled for today at the
end of November.
Federal agents found a freezer
containing automatic weapons, grenades and a
silencer aboard the accused’ boat and also seized
gas masks, munitions and a false Guatemalan
passport.
Both of the accused were part
of the crew of the Santrina, which picked
up Posada Carriles from Islas Mujeres, Mexico
last March.
Meanwhile the influential
New York Times has published a notice calling
on the U.S. authorities not to grant refuge to the
terrorist Posada.
The call was made by a group of
relatives and friends of the victims of the
sabotage of the Cubana passenger plane in 1976.
“Should the United States give
refuge to an international terrorist?” the
Families of Victims Committee asks via that page. |
