Voter registration lists posted at polling stations
Technical and organizational support for the April
17 elections to be tested on Sunday
Seminars for electoral
commissioners continue.
BY MARIA JULIA MAYORAL—Granma
daily staff writer—
VOTER registration lists, broken
down among the 37,200 polling stations to operate
during the upcoming April 17 elections, will be
posted today to facilitate in advance citizens’
knowledge of exactly where they are supposed to vote
for the delegate/s nominated in the constituency
where they reside.
Rubén Pérez, a member of the
National Electoral Commission (CEN), also confirmed
that the aforementioned lists will be subject to
updating until April 16, when the basic report will
be issued with the official number of registered
voters in the country.
As he explained, modifications
could be necessary due to change of address, the
registration of young people who have turned 16,
death, or the recovery of electoral rights by
persons who have completed prison sentences.
This Sunday, he noted, the
dynamic test will take place; that is, the general
testing of the mechanisms for communications and
data transmission to be used during the elections,
as well as a review of material resources (ballot
boxes, ballots, national insignia, etc.). Members of
all the electoral commissions and the 186,000
citizens who will be working at the polling stations
will participate in a “dry run.”
According to Rubén Pérez, seminars are continuing
for members of the electoral commissions based on
electoral law and CEN Instruction No. 3. To
contribute to that training, a demonstration class
will be broadcast in coming days over one of Cuban
television’s educational channels. Further
information on that class – another means of
increasing citizens’ awareness – is still to come,
he noted.
