Plan to grant Posada Carriles
in El Salvador condemned
SAN SALVADOR
(PL).—This Sunday social organizations here
condemned the intentions of the US government and El
Salvador to grant asylum in this Central American
country to the notorious terrorist of Cuban origin,
Luis Posada Carriles.
A communiqué
from the FMLN Political Commission rejected any idea
of Posada Carriles being sent to this nation “to
receive protection and enjoy impunity.”
The FMLN
assured that such an act would be a very comfortable
way out for the US government, even though it would
go against the principles of international justice,
given that the infamous killer is being claimed by
the courts in Venezuela and other nations.
The
Political Commission also called on the government
of Elias Antonio Saca “not to accept this terrorist
on Salvadoran soil,” where he is awaiting trial on
charges of illegally obtaining documents presenting
him as a citizen of that nation.
Posada
Carriles, who is in US territory – a fact concealed
by the government of that country – is guilty of the
sabotage in 1976 of a Cubana Aviation passenger
plane with 73 people on board.
In addition,
together with Gaspar Jiménez, Pedro Remón and
Guillermo Novo, he plotted to assassinate Cuban
President Fidel Castro during the 10th Ibero-American
Summit in 2000.
Detained
after the plot was exposed by Fidel Castro himself,
these terrorists were sentenced by a Panamanian
court and pardoned in August last year by the then
president, Mireya Moscoso, almost at the end of her
term in office.
Carriles recently turned up in Miami to ask the US
authorities for asylum.
