Number of Iraqi civilian victims
growing in U.S. attacks

BAGHDAD, October 19 (PL).—At least two dead, 10 wounded, 12 arrested and various houses destroyed is the balance of military operations perpetrated by the U.S. Command in Iraq in a desperate attempt to neutralize the resistance.

In the city of Dhuluiya, north of this capital, U.S. soldiers killed two Iraqis and wounded 10. The search and capture operation also left two businesses on fire and resulted in 12 arrests.

In the city of Falluja, west of Baghdad, U.S. warplanes bombed various buildings in a residential area, destroying various homes.

The aerial attacks started last night and lasted until the early hours. The number of dead and injured is unknown.

Falluja has been the target of cruel bombardments in recent weeks, which have led to the death of more than 100 civilians, the majority of them women, children and the elderly.

On the other hand, a U.S. soldier was found dead in his cabin in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, the Pentagon Central Command announced this Tuesday.

According to an official communiqué, the soldier died on Sunday as a result of a wound suffered outside of the conflict.

Radio stations have predicted that this could be another suicide, a form of escape for some soldiers who cannot endure the rigors of war, every day more tragic given the persistent Iraqi resistance.

With this new casualty, the total of troops who have died in Iraq in the last 18 months of invasion and occupation has risen to 1,102.
