Protest in the United States against Bush’s
reelection
LOS ANGELES.-Although this
is not always reflected in the media, diverse
sectors in the United States have been demonstrating
against the reelection of George W. Bush, according
to La Opinión daily.
The publication covers a
march organized by hundreds of Hispanics in San
Bernadino, California to express their rejection of
his seeking a further term in the White House.
But that was just the most
recent of protests in the context of the
presidential elections by various political, social
and trade union groups with diverse demands.
Armando Navarro, president
of the National Human Rights Coalition, the
organization that convened the march in downtown San
Bernadino, said that the message “has been very
clear, President Bush is ignoring the demands of the
Hispanic community and we do not want him to be
reelected.”
The demonstration, called
the No to Bush Electoral Mobilization, brought
together representatives of at least 30
organizations, not all confined to Hispanics, who
agree with that opinion and are to continue
mobilizing in the weeks leading up to the elections. |
