Four persons injured in pro-Aristide demonstration

AT least four persons were injured in a demonstration by supporters of President Jean Bertrand Aristide when the Haitian police fired on protestors demanding the return of the deposed leader.

Various journalists covering the demonstration confirmed that shots were fired and other witnesses stated that both the police and demonstrators exchanged fire, according to Europa press.

“We have treated four persons with bullet wounds. Apparently other hospitals have taken in other injured people,” said Frandoe Augustin Chartier, a doctor at the Canapé Vert hospital in Port-au-Prince.

According to witnesses, the exchange of shots began after the Haitian police used tear gas to disperse the march.
