STUDYING AT ELAM
• A number of readers,
including Adrián González, have asked us about how
to study medicine at the Latin American School of
Medicine (ELAM). To enroll at ELAM, those interested
should direct themselves to the Cuban diplomatic
missions in their respective countries and request
the desired information. This project has be founded
basically for young people from low-income families
who need to meet the following prerequisites:
A Bachelor’s Degree in the
Sciences or its equivalent.
High School grades.
One of the above-mentioned
documents should come with the seal of the Ministry
of Education in the student’s country, the Ministry
of Foreign Relations, and the Cuban embassy or
interests section there. The student should also
possess his or her birth certificate and a health
certificate including HIV and pregnancy tests. There
is an age limit (25) at the moment of effecting
registration, and students should moreover be
physically and mentally fit to undertake studies in
medicine.
Also required is the
presentation of any criminal record and the ELAM
scholarship request form, along with six photos.
WORLD WALK AGAINST CHILDHOOD
HUNGER
On June 20, an unusual event
was set to take place, according to a message sent
to us from the offices of the World Food Program. It
is a “Walk Around the World,” with the purpose of
increasing awareness of the problem of hunger, but
also to generate funds for feeding and educating
some 30,000 school-age boys and girls who are
suffering from hunger. With this strategy,
supporters and sympathizers from UN and TGP/TNT
agencies will walk “around the world,” through 24
time zones, over 24 hours. TPG is a global leader in
mail and logistics, a supplier of services under the
TNT and TPG Post Real, which in December of 2002
entered into a long-term association with PMA to
unite forces and resources in the interest of saving
lives.
RECEIVED WITH THANKS
Daniel Oliveiro, of
Argentina, asks us if our online edition is the same
as the print version. Well, no, the digital edition
uses materials from the print version, but is also
updated twice a day with top Cuban and international
news.
From Mexico, Carlo García
says that he thinks the writing and reporting of
articles published by Granma International
are brilliant.
Néstor Héctor of Argentina
sends greetings.
In addition, Daniel Silber
of the Federation of Jewish Cultural Agencies of
Argentina, comments to us, “We join with those whom,
all over the world and in Israel itself, repudiate
these collective murders, which are no longer
selective. In defense of the humanist ethic of
Judaism, we say ‘Stop Now, Sharon!’ “ |
