MESSAGE TO THE INTERNATIONAL NAUTICAL COMMUNITY

Twelve years ago, the Hemingway International Nautical Club of Cuba was created. On anniversary of that event, the club sends out a greeting to all of the clubs and individuals of the world who have enjoyed and participated in its activities. Here is an excerpt: “Thank you very much for your friendship and support in our efforts to contribute to the development of sports, recreation and nautical tourism in Cuba. We would like to take advantage of this opportunity to affirm that friends of the sea will always be welcome at our Yacht Club.” The message ends with a stanza from a song sung by several generations of Cuban ocean-lovers:

“To sail, to fish, to dream,

with stars bearing witness,

make the sea your friend,

and you will have a sea of friends.”

MEXICAN SUPPORT

The summit in Guadalajara, Mexico, did not just provoke protest demonstrations in the streets of that country. Our editorial offices also received messages like the following: “I want to express my solidarity with the Cuban people and their President; I have read the apologies offered to the Mexican people for not attending the summit, I consider his reasons to be very fair and that he showed great courage in stating them as openly and clearly as he has. I firmly condemn the embargo and am in total agreement with that summit’s superficiality and lack of valuable content for our Latin American peoples.” This was written by Dr. María Concepción Rodríguez, of Mexico.

Irisela Sánchez also tells us that she has been closely following the aggressions against the Cuban people. “I recently read the note relating to the infamy of the Yankee government in tightening the noose so that foreign currency entering Cuba cannot be used. And many of those of us who travel to the island for recreation, sisterhood and/or health, do it fully knowing that while it may be a grain of sand, we are contributing to the economy of our second country. That is why what I have just read makes me exceedingly indignant, and I want to tell you that in my home in the Federal District, the home of the Sánchez Pérez family, we have hung a small Cuban flag in a window looking on to the street.”

A WAR THAT WILL END BADLY

Sylvio Le Blanc of Canada sent us his opinion on what is happening in Iraq. He comments that “the result of the war in Iraq will be a more destabilized region, an increase in acts of terrorism throughout the world and large numbers of dead soldiers and civilians. The ‘liberators’ will never be heroes, just as they never were in Viet Nam, except for Bush’s disciples.”

RECEIVED WITH THANKS

Eugenio Díaz Iglesias, of Mexico, asks for clarification from us regarding an article that we published last week entitled “Video of decapitated U.S. citizen in Iraq staged by the CIA.” This material was taken from the www.rebelion.org website, Eugenio, and because of its impact, we reprinted part of it in our newspaper.

From the United States, R. Walth, a Nicaraguan, expresses solidarity with us.
