Cuba warns of Panamanian intention to
pardon anti-Cuban terrorists
CUBA
has called on international public opinion and all
of the world’s governments to condemn and prevent
the pardoning of the four terrorists of Cuban origin
jailed in Panama.
This
appeal is contained in an official statement
published yesterday after reiterated rumors that
Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso is to make such
a decision in the next few days to the benefit of
Luis Posada Carriles, Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo, Pedro
Remón and Guillermo Novo Sampol.
According to the statement, indications in Panama
and Miami have grown stronger in the last few hours
regarding the imminence of a pardon for the four
anti-Cuban terrorists.
Friends
in Panama have confirmed these rumors and assert
that the Panamanian president has already made her
decision to pardon these terrorists, who were
arrested, tried and sentenced in the Republic of
Panama for attempting to assassinate President Fidel
Castro during the Ibero-American Summit in that
country, the statement continues. Had it been
carried out, the attack also would have killed
hundreds of young Panamanians in that sister
country.
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns this new
affront to the Cuban people and reiterates that, if
these terrorists detained in Panama are pardoned,
the historic responsibility and consequences
stemming from such an unworthy decision will fall
squarely upon President Mireya Moscoso and her
government.
