Fidel welcomes Lula on his
arrival in Cuba
President
Fidel Castro was at the José Martí International
Airport to receive Brazilian President Luiz Inácio
Lula da Silva who has begun his first official visit
to Cuba.
Lula
arrived at 12.15 today, (Friday, September 26) at
terminal three, accompanied by a important Brazilian
delegation.
His agenda
on the island includes the official welcoming
ceremony at the Palacio de la Revolución, talks
between the two delegations headed by Fidel and
Lula, and signing bilateral agreements.
The
Brazilian leader’s presence on the island will
contribute to strengthening mutual friendship and
cooperation, corresponding to both Havana and
Brasilia’s desire to increase bilateral ties. The
large South American country has over 172 million
inhabitants.
Agnelo
Santos Queiroz Filho, Brazilian sports minister, is
also on the island for a few days. He has just
signed a significant collaboration agreement with
Humberto Rodríguez González, president of Cuba’s
institute of sports, physical education and
recreation (INDER). (AIN)
