Congratulations, and help educate the world about
what good things the Third World can do – things
that are not often heard of in the developed world."
This is a message from Ernest Miah, country unknown.
Effectively Ernest, what Cuba is
making public in Geneva are its experiences of how
technology can be used in terms of its people’s
education and culture, and not with the banal
objectives with which the mega-media entertainment
channels bombard the global population. Beyond its
own borders, the nation is also preparing programs
to make the most of the technology within our reach
to combat illiteracy in other Latin American nations.
Recently, Cuba received an award from UNESCO for
this project, initially put into practice in Haiti.
I recommend you follow our coverage of the summit
through our on-line edition as well as other Cuban
press websites.
ON GLOBALIZATION
Milinko Isakovic from Yugoslavia
tells us: "In the future we will face new social
problems. Globalization and new manifestations of
imperialism are costing dearly. Only if we are
united will we be able to win the struggle for
liberty and human rights. There is a way forward for
the six billion people worldwide: and that is the
way of the left.
"I wish you much success and more
combat on in the terrain of the left in 2004."
RECEIVED WITH THANKS
From Venezuela, José Antonio Carrero
describes the current situation in his country as
historic. I suggest you read the "Our America"
section of our on-line edition for our commentaries
on your nation.
Also from Venezuela, J.C.P. would
like to condemn "the mega-fraud prepared by
President Hugo Chavez’ critics who want to hold a
recall referendum on his mandate. They are now
refusing to hand over the documents. They have
already been exposed by intelligence agents who
uncovered this underhand act in time. It is
calculated that more than a million identity cards
were scanned in order to achieve what they wanted.
But the people on the streets are defending their
Revolution."
From Malaysia, we receive news that
on December 4 the Hotel Equatorial, in Kuala Lumpur
a month-long celebration dedicated to Cuba began.
Food, wines, cigars, coffee and ice cream are on
sale throughout the event. At the same time, an
exhibition comprising 40 etchings by Cuban artists
went on display as well as a small season of Cuban
films.
Gilles Hudicourt from Montreal,
Canada sends his most sincere condolences to those
who were close to Rubén González, the renowned Cuban
pianist who died recently.
María Narvaez from Puerto Rico, the
editor of Claridad’s cultural magazine En
Rojo is looking for information about the death
of Rubén González. Granma published an
article that is available to read on the Internet.
Riccardi Valler from Italy would
like us to know how much he admires Che.
