MADRID.— Cuban anti-terrorist
Fernando González thanked supporters in Spain for
their solidarity upon his arrival in the country, as
an invited guest of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).
González , a member of the Cuban Five who completed
his sentence in U.S. prisons in full and is now
serving as vice president of the Cuban Friendship
Institute, thanked supporters for their efforts and
called upon solidarity groups in Spain to continue
their work to free Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino
and Antonio Guerrero, incarcerated since September,

Juan Almeida a member of honor, posthumously
The Union of Cuban Writers and
Artists (UNEAC), on September 16, declared
Comandante Juan Almeida an honorary member of the
organization, five years after his death.
posthumous distinction was announced by UNEAC
President Miguel Barnet, during a tribute to Almeida
who, in addition to playing a key role in the
leadership of the Cuban Revolution, found time to
compose songs and write.
